Setting Up your artwork page in GoLabel II
Before we can design or create artwork to print, we must set up our “page” on the software. Essentially, we print a continuous ribbon in step-and-repeat steps on a narrow piece of fabric. We have to setup our software to accommodate this.
When clicking the Page Setup option on the main toolbar, the page setup screen is displayed. On the Page Setup menu, there are three tabs:
- Media Size
- Layout
- Media Type
The Page Setup menu defaults to the Media Size tab upon opening.
Page width is the width of the ribbon you wish to print. For our example we are going to use a 20mm wide satin ribbon. We always work in millimetres. measurements. (If you are using a ribbon guide template please see these instructions to align your artwork and satin ribbon setup)
Page height is the length of a single artwork (continuous) that you want to design. For this example, let’s use 130mm.
Because we want to make use of the full print area of each strip of ribbon, we are not going to set any margins on our job.
On the right hand side of the menu the ribbon preview is displayed to show the width and height of a single artwork repeat.
Let’s move on to the Layout Tab.
Ensure that the Multi Sub-Label Mode is selected to print on ribbons.
The Print Order options should always be set to Top to Bottom.
When you are comfortable with printing ribbons, you can set the columns to more than one, and set up your printer to run multiple rolls of ribbon, with different artwork. But for this tutorial, we are using a single column.
We don’t set anything on the horizontal gap/pitch (not for printing ribbons)
We keep the rows to 1, and don’t set anything on the Vertical gap/pitch (not for ribbon printing).
Choose the rectangular Label Shape, this corresponds to our ribbon shape (ribbons don’t have round edges and it’s not round).
Lastly, select the Media Type tab to set the way your ribbon is printed.
With the media type tab menu displayed, select the Continuous option. The ribbon we print is mounted on a continuous roll, and is printed as such. This is the only selection you need to make from this menu.
Click on the OK button to save your changes for this particular print job.
You should now be ready to design your artwork on the page that was just set up.
